Bistrot

La Java

149, rue Montmartre - 75002 Paris

A new neighbourhood café, La Java's broad red façade is just behind the "Grands Boulevards", with the Palais Brongniart (Paris's Stock Exchange) over your shoulder, offering a lovely sunny terrace, from which to watch Paris's lively multicultural bustle.

Under bright neon lights, to a background of salsa, Kompa, rumba and reggaeton, La Java takes us on an exotic journey. South America in the blink of an eye... imagine yourself in Cuba or Buenos Aires! From the red and pewter bar to the velvet curtains, flamboyant wall seating and artfully placed mirrors: simple and yet sensual, Sylvie Hakim's decor creates just the right atmosphere. In the dining room and on the wide colourful terrace, a new regular clientele orders burgers and fresh French fries, tartares, club sandwiches and generous salads.

Before dinner drinks start at 5 pm here, Happy Hour style, with a delicious selection of cocktails shaken or stirred by the expert bartenders. Enjoy a Cuba Libre, Caipirinha, a languorous Tango Champagne or one of the excellent rum combos concocted by French Guianan manager, Serge Monin. Coconut, passion fruit-vanilla, or get yourself into shape with some "Medicine", the house specialty, made with ginger, richeria grandis, lemon and cane sugar. In the evening, the lighting is subtler, with candles on the tables, and La Java dances to a more romantic rhythm...

Bistrot

Café de Paris

45 Avenue de Friedland - 75008 Paris

Here is a taste of Paris, a reflection of its essence, located on the Avenue de Friedland, in the Hausmann style, just opposite the luxurious Hôtel Napoléon, a former haunt of literary figures such as Hemingway, Steinbeck and Dali. A short walk from the Champs-Elysees, but protected from the crowds, the Café de Paris Friedland offers a perfect postcard view of the Arc de Triomphe.

Run by the charming Ludivine Cazoul and decorated by Sylvie Hakim, the bistrot section, under a large covered terrace, is in a chic, retro style, with old-fashioned signs, pedestal tables with marble tops and rattan chairs. However, inside, the restaurant breaks with tradition, with small lounge areas for a more intimate atmosphere, or round tables and red banquette seating for a "tête-à-tête"; for the Cafe de Paris Friedland also reflects the modern side of Paris. Like the exhibition of pictures by the photographer Vic, a young French woman based in New-York, which offers a quirky, poetic vision of the modern bistro. Whether you come for scrambled eggs for breakfast, a rib of beef, Caesar salad or burger with house fries for lunch, to share a Magnum of pink champagne for an aperitif, to sip a Mojito, or to try James Bond's "Vesper" cocktail, the key here is simply to relax and enjoy yourself...

The friendly welcome, discreet service from staff in black aprons, and the poetic atmosphere, make this the new, elegant address in Paris's Golden Triangle.
